Von meiner Warte aus erscheint es, als ob inzwischen alle in der Zentangle-Welt von den „Travelling Tangles“ gehört haben müssen. Aber falls doch nicht, will ich das doch kurz erklären. Travelling Tangles (reisende Tangles) werden von einer Person angefangen, dann von jemand anderem fertiggestellt. Das kann man direkt machen, z.B. bei einem Tangle-Treff mit befreundeten oder benachbarten TanglerInnen…oder man kann die Kachel durch die halbe Weltgeschichte schicken! (Für Letzteres gibt eine sehr aktive Facebook-Gruppe, die für jeden offen ist, falls Ihr größeres Interesse verspürt.) Ach, ist das schön. Es ist eine Bereicherung und eine Herausforderung, eine Kachel, die von jemand anderem angefangen wurde, weiterzuführen. Da merkt man erst recht, wie sehr man sich ein dem eigenen Stil oder Vorgehensweise gewöhnt hat. Und es ist immer eine tolle Überraschung zu sehen, wie jemand anders eine Kachel zu Ende bringt, die man selbst angefangen hat.
From where I stand it would seem that meanwhile everyone in the Zentangle world has heard of travelling tangles. But just in case you haven’t, let me briefly explain the idea. Travelling tangles, or tile swaps, are when one person starts a tile and someone else finishes it. You can do this directly, for example at a tangle meet-up or in a tangle class….or you can send and receive tiles halfway around the world! (There is a very active Facebook group dedicated to this project which is worth joining if you are interested.) It is a wonderful experience. It is both inspiring and challenging to finish a tile that someone else started. You are likely to become acutely aware of how you have gotten used a particular style and/or procedure. And it is so much fun to see how someone else completes a tile you started.
Mein allererste Tausch war mit Sue Zanker aus Australien. Sue – die ich ursprünglich von Flickr kenne – hat mich angesprochen und meine Ängste genommen, hier mitzumachen. Ja, man wird auch nervös, denn man könnte ja die Kachel vermasseln. Ich vermassele meine Kacheln schon mit ziemlicher Regelmässigkeit – manchmal bin ich einfach etwas zu experimentierfreudig! Aber Sue hat mir versichert, dass es egal ist. Und ich durfte mir sehr viel Zeit lassen. Also habe ich es gewagt und mit Sue meine ersten Travelling Tangles fertiggemacht:
My first tile swap was with Sue Zanker from Australia. I first met Sue on Flickr, and she encouraged me to swap tiles with her and calmed my fears of possibly not doing her tiles justice. (Sometimes I am too experimental and the results are less than stellar…) Sue assured me that I didn’t have to post a tile if I was not happy with it and that I could take my time. So I agreed and I am so glad I did! These, then are the first travelling trangles I completed:
Nach dieser Erfahrung war ich Feuer und Flamme für Kacheltausche und verschickte von mir angefangenen Kachel an meinen „Zentangle-Schwestern“ in Deutschland, Nadine Roller, Sabrina Stein und Katharina Königsbauer-Kolb (wir waren zusammen bei der CZT-Seminar in Providence). Und das, obwohl sie mich gar nicht darum gebeten haben (hi hi hi). Sie haben alle die Kachel brav getangelt und hatten auch viel Spass daran. Sabrina hat darüber hier gebloggt. Und Katharina hat mir sogar dann auch Kachel zum Fertigmachen geschickt! Ich habe fast all fertig (eine fehlt noch…ich habe es irgendwie vorübergehend vergessen aber ich mache sie noch!):
At this point I was determined to spread the joy of tile swaps to some dear Zentangle friends who I knew would not refuse me, even though they didn’t actually ask me to swap with them, heh-heh-heh: my „Zentangle sisters“ Nadine Roller, Sabrina Stein and Katharina Königsbauer-Kolb (we were at the CZT Seminar in Providence together). They all dutifully finished the tiles, and definitely had fun. Sabrina blogged about one of our swaps here. And Katharina sent me some of her own to finish! I have completed all but one (which I somehow overlooked but will definitely get to soon):

Mein letzter Tausch (bis jetzt) war mit Debbie New, CZT aus Singapur. Debbie und ich haben uns auch bei Flickr zunächst angefreundet. Erst nach dem CZT Seminar in Providence haben wir entdeckt, dass wir beide gleichzeitig da waren! So schade, dass wir uns verpasst haben. Nichtsdestotrotz pflegen wir unsere virtuelle Freundschaft und hoffen, dass wir vielleicht eine weitere Gelegenheit bekommen. Debbie hat mir Kachel und Papiere geschickt, auf dem sie handgemischte Acrylfarbe angebracht hat. Mit dem Papier habe ich mich noch nicht ausgetobt aber die Kachel habe ich fertig. Die erste Kachel war leer außer der tollen Farbe:
My most recent exchange to date was with Debbie New, CZT from Singapore. Debbie and I were also Flickr friends. But after I returned from the CZT Seminar in Providence, I discovered Debbie had been there at the same time! It’s so unfortunate that we didnt know that and didn’t meet each other there! Darn. But we continue our virtual friendship and who knows, maybe we will get another opporunity. Anyway, Debbie sent me tiles and paper that she had brushed (or perhaps sprayed?) with acrylic paint she mixed herself. I have not played with the paper yet, but I did complete the tiles. The first tile she sent was empty except for the lovely, inspiring color:
Debbie hat auf der zweiten Kachel etwas getangelt – etwas so fein und genau und wunderbar, dass ich nicht aus dem Staunen herauskam. Da musste ich lange überlegen, wie ich das weiter mache. Zum Schluss habe ich dann buchstäblich weitergemacht, d.h. diese schöne Form von Debbie wiederholt…naja, so gut wie ich konnte. Ich bin sicher, dass Debbie Zauberstifte benutzt, denn es kann nur an den Stift liegen, dass ich das nicht so fein und genau wie sie hinbekommen habe, oder? Trotzdem gefällt mir das Ergebnis sehr.
Debbie tangled a bit on the second tile – something so delicate and precise I could not get over it. I had to think Long and hard about how to continue, and decided in the end to literally continue, i.e., by repeating that beautiful tangled shape Debbie had drawn. Well, I repeated as well as I could. I decided that Debbie must have magical pens, because the only reason I couldn’t quite match her delicate precision has to be the pen, right??? Anyway, I am still very happy with the end result:
