Farbe benutzen / Using color

Wenn es um Farbe geht, da scheiden sich die Geister. Ich kenne Einige, die mit „bunter“ Zentangle-Kunst nichts zu tun haben wollen; andere finden ihr Werk nur mit Farbe vollendet und schön. Die ursprüngliche Zentangle®-Methode verzichtet auf Farbe vor allem deswegen, um die Sache einfach zu halten. Und ich persönlich finde nicht, dass Farbe zwingend notwendig ist – die schwarz-weißen Kachel sind in meinen Augen vollkommen und bieten unendliche Möglichkeiten. Ich mache nach wie vor überwiegend schwarz-weiße Zentangle-Kunst, vor allem dann, wenn ich runterkommen und entspannen will.

People have widely different opinions on color in Zentangle® inspired artwork. I know a number of Zentangle artists who are „purists“ and dislike anything but the faintest touch of color in their work; others believe color brings the finishing touch of perfection to their art. The original Zentangle method sticks to black pen and graphite on white paper mostly for reasons of simplicity. Personally, I don’t think color is really necessary – the black-and-white play of lines, and the depth added by graphite is absolutely beautiful and offers endless creative possibilities. I have always mostly worked in black and white, especially when I am tangling to relax.

Nichtdestotrotz bin ich eigentlich immer offen dafür gewesen, Farbe auch bei Zentangle-Kunst zu verwenden. Ich komme ja zu Zentangle auf dem Umweg der Malerei. Ich habe ziemlich schnell bunte Stifte angeschafft und damit angefangen zu spielen, wenn auch sehr begrenzt.

Having said that – I have nonetheless always been open to and interested in using color. After all, I was painting at the time I took up with Zentangle. It wasn’t long before I began to experiment with color when I tangled, even if I really only dabbled.

Das Thema „Farbe“ im Tanglen ist vielfältig. Es geht nicht nur darum, welche Farbe(n)man nutzt, sondern es umschreibt viele verschiedene Techniken und Materialien. Man kann mit farbigen Stiften tanglen oder Farbe einer schwarz-weisse Kachel nachträglich hinzufügen. Man kann auf farbigem Papier tanglen und/oder das Papier vorher nach verschiedenen Methoden färben. Und man kann diese Vorgehensweisen auch alle miteinander kombinieren!

Using color with Zentangle can mean many different things – it’s not just a question of what color(s) to use, but which techniques and materials. It can mean drawing your tangles with colored pens, adding color to tangles drawn in black, or drawing tangles on colored paper – either in black or with colored pens. And for this you can either use colored paper or add the color yourself using any number of means and mediums. And of course every and any combination of these methods is also possible!

Außer ganz am Anfang, wo ich ein paar sehr, sehr bunte Sachen ausprobiert habe, habe ich mich bis jetzt meistens für nur eine Farbe oder für dezente Farben entschieden:

Doch neulich wollte ich etwas mutiger sein und habe ein paar Kachel ausgesucht, von denen ich dachte, Farbe würde sie gut stehen. Hierfür habe ich habe Prismacolor Buntstifte verwendent und zeige euch die, die mir gefallen:

Recently, however, I decided to be slightly more daring and picked out a few tiles that I thought would look good with color. I used Prismacolor colored pencils to add Color – here are the ones I think turned out nicely:

Zum Schluss habe ich probiert, die Kachel ganz fröhlich-bunt mit wasservermalbare Stifte einzufärben. Darauf habe ich mit bunten Gelstifte (Moonlight von Sakura) sowie mit schwarzem Micron getangelt. Sehr bunt aber schön – oder?

Finally, I decided to try coloring my tiles with very bright and cheery colors using aquarel crayons. I tangled on this Background with Sakura Moonlight gelly rolls and black Micron. Very bright, but rather pretty, don’t you think?
